Getting to Lombok with a Surfboard

Assuming you are traveling to Lombok from one of the other Indonesian islands (the most common way to get to Lombok), your choices are either by boat or by plane. Luckily, both options are surfboard friendly! For more info on the options for traveling to Lombok, check out the post How To Get To Kuta Lombok.

Flying with a Surfboard

The most common airlines flying to Lombok are Citilink, Lion Air and Wings Air. Depending on how you book (differs by travel agencies), Citilink may provide the option to pre-book extra baggage for a surfboard. Lion Air and Wings Air (affiliated) allow for surfboards to be added on at the airport, but don’t offer the option to pre-book.

Fees are charged per surfboard. You might get away with hiding additional boards in your bag, but it will depend on the size and weight of your bag. I have not had to show the contents of my bag, but I have had to pay for more “surfboards” than my claim due to the sheer weight of my bag when I have packed other items in there.

Bringing a Surfboard on the Ferry or a Fast Boat

Surfboards can also be transported to Lombok via the sea. For an affordable option, they can be brought on the ferry free of charge.

Options to bring surfboards on the fast boats are also available for a fee, which can vary by operator.
